Laxman, born on June 7, 1949 in the village of Masturi in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh, had become the lead singer of the famous cultural institution ‘Chandaini Gonda’ at the age of twenty-two. Ramchandra Deshmukh was its founder. To bring the cultural identity and regional self-respect of Chhattisgarh to the country and the world, he laid the foundation of folk artists and poets under one roof in his village Baghera in Durg district, on November 7, 1971, away from the region. – It was the first demonstration among thousands of people from far away.
This platform of cultural awakening also made poet Lakshman Masturia the hero of the world of voice in Chhattisgarh through his songs filled with the aroma of Maati and human emotions. The public took up these Chhattisgarhi songs associated with the beats of the earth. When these songs began to be broadcast in their melodious tones from the Raipur center of All India Radio, these songs went on to become people’s songs. This song of his still binds every human being in the soil of Chhattisgarh in the spirit of collectivity and people start humming these lines –
